A Healthy Bedroom for A Better Sleep
Studies show we spend one third of our lives asleep. That’s a lot of time to spend in our bedrooms, but how healthy is yours? Here are a few tips to make your bedroom the healthiest room in the house. Keep your bedroom free of dust.
Dust may contain moulds, fibres and dander from animals as well as tiny dust mites. These mites can live in bedding, upholstered furniture and carpets. The waste products from dust mites can actually provoke an allergic reaction. If you are prone to allergies you may be using the wrong type of bedding for sensitive skin. Changing your current bedding to bamboo pillows and comforters will help to reduce your allergies. Bamboo pillows and comforters are antibacterial and hypoallergenic, making them highly resistant to the dust mites. Weekly dusting of the bedroom and washing of your bedding can also help to minimise the amount of dust.
Lights out! You can make your bedroom healthier by taking technology out of it. Standby lights and digital displays can be disrupting sources of light. Keep light pollution to a minimum by choosing only to allow gentle and natural forms of light and enjoy a healthier sleep.
During sleep, our body temperature decreases. If a bedroom is too hot or too cold it can throw out the body’s core temperature and cause restlessness. A bedroom that is at 22-23 degrees is best for a peaceful sleep. Changing your sleepwear and bedding can also help to keep your body at a good temperature. Bamboo fabric is best as it has a great level of breathability and has moisture wicking properties making it cool and comfortable to wear during summer, but also has insulating properties keeping you warmer in winter.
Bring nature inside
Indoor plants have great health benefits that can contribute to a better sleep. Indoor plants help to purify air by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. They have also been proven to remove airborne mould and bacteria, which helps to minimise allergies.
