Sheets, they are wrapped around the bed to produce a neat, comfortable bed. Many people think of the bed as a place to lay upon and only take into account the beds softness; however, sheets are an important part of the process that effects how comfortable the bed is to lay in. Up until recently, cotton has been the dominating fiber used in all sheet related productions. Now bamboo is starting to make a scene in the market. The two fabrics are of comparable qualities, but each has it’s own key differences. The differences range from being small to substantial.
Cotton, the Popular Fabric
The use of cotton spans back longer than any of us have been alive. Cotton is indeed the leader in sales due to the popular demand of cotton, specifically Egyptian cotton. Egyptian cotton has a few remarkable properties that make it stand out amongst the rest. For one, it is one of the softest fabrics you can sleep in. This makes it the desirable sheets to use upon your bed; after all, you don’t want to sleep in a bed that is uncomfortable. Cotton sheets can be found in just about any department store.
Bamboo, An Eco-Friendly Take on Cotton
A decade ago, no one would of thought of having bamboo sheets. It just doesn’t sound like a comfortable sleeping medium. Well, bamboo sheets happen to be one of the softest fabrics that you can buy. This makes them the same as cotton, but bamboo sheets are comparable to the most expensive cotton sheets; although, they are a bit more costly than standard cotton sheets. Bamboo sheets also have the added benefit of being more durable. This makes them last longer than sheets that cost more. It would be almost impossible to not mention the environmentally friendly property bamboo sheets have, Lastly, bamboo sheets have been linked to decreased microbial activity; in other words, they prevent your sheets from becoming all infected with germs and help fight off skin diseases.
Deciding Between the Two
They both feel the same and it’s hard to tell the difference, except bamboo breathes better. The added property breathable bamboo sheets helps. Also, if you are prone to allergies, you may want to avoid cotton. It is sprayed with a host of pesticides that may not be entirely washed off when bought; however, the two fabrics feel almost identical. If you are deciding based on comfort, bamboo sheets are better due to their breathable and moisture absorbing nature.
